Instructions:
  1. Click To launch the Color Calculator .
  2. Follow the directions in the INSTRUCTIONS box to create harmonious color schemes.
  3. Experiment freely with the various controls.
What to notice:
  • Multidimensional view of color. Learners control color by picking from five harmony schemes, tuning the scheme, varying saturation and lightness. Resulting colors can be viewed in sample designs and as color values by RGB, CMYK, and HTML methods of specification. Relationships can be explored and correspondences discovered.
  • Prompted discovery. Instructions guide the learner to use the calculator in a way that reveals its potential, provokes discoveries about color, and incites curiosity to learn more.
  • Working tool. The calculator can store color schemes on the clipboard for application in real-world use. The tool for learning continues as a tool for doing.
